World-Class Walleye and Channel Catfish!

Reports

4/28/2012:

Fishing right now is nothing short of spectacular! Big aggressive cats are on the prowl and bait doesn't seem to make much difference. Bigger fish have been coming off Goldeye. Fishing holes in the main channel of the river has been very productive. Also, log jams are putting out some good fish too. My boat ramp is cleaned off and the porta-potty should be down there soon. I have quite a few days open and you can call or send me a text message to set up a date for your Fishing Adventure!

Good Luck, Captain Josh Burgett

5/4/2012:

The action is pretty much the same as it's been the last few weeks, with even bigger fish coming in.

Here Kitty Kitty......

I went to lunch with a good friend yesterday and once we were finished with our meals we both said to each other, "you know, it's pretty nice out, we should probably be out fishing", so it was pretty much decided right there that we'd head out. I've been on a hot bite and everything was ready to go. I even go so far as to tell him how we'd each be battling a fish over 20 pounds within the first 2 minutes of the first spot we fished.

Well, we got to my deep hole which at the bottom has a nasty tree in about 15 FOW and toss the lines out. The rod tips begin to dance and it doesn't look like anything's going to commit. After the 15 minute rule has passed, I decide it's time to relocate. We don't move far, and it's the same type of structure only deeper, sitting in 22 feet and our "spread" is at the bottom in about 18 feet. My corner rod is the first to get worked over HARD. With the tip almost touching the water I grab the rod and it feels like my Gamakatsu Octopus circle hook is attached to a Geo Metro. You can just tell when you have something on that's over 18 pounds. At one point I thought I lost it because it was swimming that fast upstream/towards the boat, but after reeling in the slack line as fast as I could, I realized he was still on. A couple runs later, the 26 pound Cat was in the net.

We camped out for a bit more hoping for another big fish. All signs were pointed towards a total gong show but to our dismay, we only boated a couple 8 to 13 pounders. Time to move again and like before, not too far. This time we're sitting in 15 feet and the Goldeye steaks are marinating in 22 feet. Right smack dab in the middle of the channel. It doesn't take long, maybe 5 minutes and I'm hooked into another giant. Or was I? The fish came to the surface after a decent battle with almost total dead weight and I see it's coming in tail first. What? I can't remember the last time I landed a fish that was NOT hooked directly in the mouth. It's kinda hard to do when fishing with circle hooks.

After a  "beaver style" tail slap to the water, the fish again ran to the bottom and that "I know this is a 22 plus fish" feeling came to me. I was right, after the net scoop we were both drenched from the thrashing 24 pound beast. Time's running out, and after a few more smaller fish in the 8 to 10 pound range I've got to head back to the boat ramp and pick up my wife and daughter for a little cruise. All in all I'd give it a 9 out of 10 for the outing. It's nothing to write home to mom about as far as the action goes, not yet at least. Give it another week (if we have some warm weather) on the other hand, and things should get pretty crazy.

Warm weather, awesome fishing, what could be better?

Fishing continues to be outstanding. 100% a banner year for me! I've been concentrating on the main channel, deeper water, and usually one of the rods gets bent after being in the water for no less than 5 minutes. Also, for those of you who have trips booked, my new ride should be here in a few weeks! I'm very excited and hopefully it gets here soon!
